Easy and Delicious Camping Recipes
The prime camping season is upon us as summer cools into fall. One of the most challenging things to prep for is cooking for a family while camping. There’s only so many fire-roasted hotdogs one can endure. We’re here to provide delicious camping meals that require limited ingredients, are easy to cook, and are quick to clean up.
While the meals you cook depend on your audience (if it’s only you camping it’s much easier to get away with less flavorful, less fancy food), these five favorites are sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike!
Here are our top five easy and delicious camping recipes that only require a fire and skillet:
The Ultimate Camping Breakfast Sandwich
Serves: 4
Total time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 English muffins
- 2 cups cooked BBQ pulled pork
- 4 eggs
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 stick of butter
- Foil
Instructions:
- In a cast iron skillet, toast the English muffins with a bit of butter until crispy. Set aside.
- Heat pulled pork in skillet until warmed through and set aside.
- Fry eggs in skillet. Set aside.
- Fill each English muffin with ½ cup pulled pork, a fried egg, and a slice of cheese. Wrap in foil and place over campfire until cheese is melted (about 3-5 minutes).
- Serve!
Maple Siracha Chicken Kabobs
Serves: 6
Total time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 large chicken breasts, cubed
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 tbsp siracha sauce
- 1 pineapple, cubed
- 1 red bell pepper, cubed
- 1 large Ziplock bag
- Ice chest
- Wooden skewers
Instructions:
- Place cubed chicken in large Ziplock bag.
- Whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, and siracha sauce.
- Pour sauce mixture into the bag with the chicken, seal bag, and massage sauce into the chicken.
- Marinate for at least 15 minutes. Put into ice chest while marinating if you are going to let it marinate for longer than 15 minutes. Can marinate for up to 24 hours.
- Soak wooden skewers in water for 10 minutes.
- Then skewer the chicken pieces, red bell pepper pieces, and pineapple pieces on the skewers.
- Grill skewers above the fire until thoroughly cooked (about 10 minutes).
- Serve!
*Note: steps 1-6 can be completed the night before camping. Keep chicken on ice until cooking.
Sausage Mac n Cheese
Serves: 6
Total time: 40 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups elbow macaroni
- 8 oz alfredo sauce
- ½ cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup mozzarella cheese
- ¼ - ½ cup whole milk
- 1 package sausage
- Salt and pepper
Instructions:
- Slice and cook sausage in skillet. Drain and set aside.
- Cook pasta in pot according to directions. Drain and rinse.
- Put all ingredients into skillet and mix.
- Cook over the fire for about 20 minutes until all the cheese has melted.
- Serve!
Bacon, Beef, and Beans Casserole
Serves: 4
Total time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- ¾ pound bacon
- ¾ pound ground beef
- 20 oz canned baked beans
- ½ cup steak sauce or BBQ sauce
- 1 can biscuits
Instructions:
- Grill the bacon in a skillet. Drain and chop.
- Cook ground beef until just browned. Leave in skillet.
- Add bacon, beans, and sauce to the skillet. Stir and bring to a boil.
- Take off the direct fire (leave on edge of flames/on hot coals) and layer biscuits on top of the meat and beans mixture.
- Cover and cook for 10 minutes or until the biscuits are golden.
- Serve!
Sausage, Green Bean, and Potato Foil Packets
Serves: 4
Total time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 (12 oz) package of smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 pound baby red potatoes, quartered
- 1 pound green beans, trimmed
- 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, halved
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 tablespoons Cajun seasoning, divided
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Stick of butter
- Foil
Instructions:
- Cut four sheets of foil about 12 in long. Divide sausage, potatoes, green beans, mushrooms, and onions into the center of each foil.
- Add butter, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Fold the foil up and closed around the fillings.
- Place foil packets on the edge of the fire/on hot coals until cooked through (12-15min).
- Serve!
